// CanJet and WEPPS //
Cutting costs, increasing safety - How Canadian airline, CanJet, benefited from STG Aerospace’s new emergency battery power and diagnostics technology, WEPPS.
Summary
In 2008 CanJet replaced their NiCad emergency battery modules with STG’s WEPPS (Wireless Emergency Primary Power System).
• WEPPS gave CanJet a safer battery solution because WEPPS wirelesslymonitors the whole emergency lighting system and identifies MEL critical failures in 10 seconds.
• WEPPS gave CanJet a more cost-effective battery solution - by reducing operational costs and selling their redundant older generation batteries theyhave covered the cost of a whole WEPPS kit in the space of four months.
CanJet
CanJet Airlines is Canada's newest full-service charter airline. It boasts experienced flight crews, a skilled management team, a knowledgeable support staff and a fleet of new Boeing 737-800 aircraft configured to 189
seating capacity. CanJet, owned by IMP Group Limited, is one of
Canada's Top 50 Best Managed Companies and largest aviation and aerospace companies.
CanJet and WEPPS
CanJet first installed WEPPS on two of its Boeing 737-800NG aircraft in June 2008. Soon after installation the diagnostic system reported a faulty
bulb in one of the emergency lighting units that a visual inspection
had failed to spot. The fault was not MEL critical but WEPPS
identified the precise nature and location of the problem and it
was fixed in a matter of minutes.
Since it was installed, WEPPS has been operating flawlessly and has completely eliminated the maintenance regime required for the previous batteries. CanJet has installed WEPPS across its fleet.
An added bonus for CanJet has seen them resell their redundant, old-generation batteries, which makes the investment case for WEPPS even more compelling.
Brian Pike at CanJet, said: “WEPPS is living up to its billing, cutting costs
immediately after our first installations of the system. And the automatic lighting check is a real time-saver. The additional WEPPS kits will help us to make even more cost savings, and our operations even more efficient.”
CanJet completed the major ‘cost saving’ reappraisal of its emergency lighting system by also ordering STG’s market leading SafTGlo™ photoluminescent (PL) emergency floorpath marking system for the aircraft.
