// STG's emergency power system secures VSTC for all B737s //
Operators of all 567 Boeing 737 aircraft across China can now access the cost savings offered by STG Aerospace’s Wireless Emergency Primary Power System (WEPPS™). Following the grant of a VSTC (Validation of Supplemental Type Certificate) by theCivil Aviation Administration of China(CAAC), WEPPS has been approved for use on 737-300, -400 and -500 models.
This follows CAAC approval on all 737-700, -800 and -900 aircraft in May 2009 and comes as STG, the leading innovator in aircraft security, emergency power and lighting systems, celebrates another record sales month.
WEPPS uses new operating protocols and approved ‘fit-for-life’ non-rechargeable battery modules to replace conventional NiCad battery/charger packs. WEPPS can significantly reduce costs by eliminating the emergency lighting system’s entire maintenance schedule. Since there is no need to maintain the batteries on a regular basis their lifespan is extended potentially to the life of the aircraft. The system also has integrated diagnostics that automatically check all parts of the emergency lighting system against MEL requirement.
Peter Stokes, Chief Executive of STG Aerospace, said: “WEPPS reinforces STG’s mission to reduce the cost of operating aircraft and to make flying safer. We’re delighted that yet more operators in China can adopt this cost-saving and safety-critical technology, essential in the current economic climate.”
