WEPPS (Wireless Emergency Primary Power System) is a new generation power system for emergency lighting with a built-in wireless monitoring system.

It gives airline operators:
 
 A ‘fit for life’ solution of battery modules that need no charging and no maintenance – ever.
 A way of performing daily checks on the whole emergency lighting system in under 10 seconds

Why should I fit WEPPS?
WEPPS solves the problems created by old emergency lighting systems on aircraft :

  • Powered by NiCd secondary [rechargeable] batteries that are expensive to buy, are heavy and need regular maintenance; they increase inventory cost because of limited storage ‘shelf life’ [redundant stock issues] and the requirement to stock spare batteries for off-aircraft conditioning; they have rechargeable technology with fixed ‘cycle life’; they typically need replacing every 3-5 years, are environmentally toxic and need ‘special’ disposal arrangements 
  • Require mandatory ‘walk round’ MEL checks, usually performed by high cost labour
  • Require ‘go and check’ protocols to identify maintenance problems – adding to delay and cost

These problems add up to substantial unnecessary cost  for the aircraft operator.

 

WEPPS exemplifies STG’s mission to reduce the cost of operating aircraft and to make flying safer.  We’ve applied proven technologies in an innovative package to eliminate labour-intensive tasks. WEPPS offers:

  • A ‘fit for life’ solution – once fitted it needs no charging and no maintenance
  • Automated BITE and status monitoring that:
    • eliminates the daily ‘walk-through’ maintenance MEL check by automating the process from a single point monitoring station
    • eliminates time spent on manual fault diagnosis, by displaying the location, cause and remedial action needed for any system fault
    • eliminates routine battery maintenance through a product design based on more appropriate primary battery technologies
    • eliminates time and planning required for ‘conditioning’ cycles needed for NiCd technologies
  • Reduced weight – helping reduce operating cost
  • Reduced inventory cost – the batteries are approved, maintenance-free, primary [non recharged] batteries, which have indefinite shelf life, and predictable performance. There is no requirement for conditioning spares and up to 80% less inventory cost than NiCd technology.
  • Safer operation  – in recent times huge fines have been levied on airlines whose hard pressed engineers have not maintained emergency batteries and systems as they should. WEPPS effectively eliminates that risk by virtually removing the human factor
