Senior Verification & Validation Engineer

Accountable to Technical Manager, the Senior Verification Engineer will provide technical leadership to the Verification function & Consultation to the Engineering Team. Identifying problems, resolving issues and defining or delegating the development of solutions to resolve verification requirements for electronic products, generating documentation when required. This exciting role encompasses a range of activities:

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

New Product Development

  • Responsible for leading and managing the V&V activities for aerospace lighting products. Leading activities from the start of the project, working with Customers, Engineering Department, Project Management, Suppliers to define the V&V strategy that meets the customer & regulatory requirements.
  • Establish Customer Requirements of the correct quality, determine appropriate validation methods and develop both standard and non-standard verification methods. Specifying test equipment and suitable test/ analysis facilities to meet project deliverables.
  • Author & Approve technical documentation, including but not limited to verification plans, test procedures & reports. Oversee and have the ability to perform development & qualification testing of all STG electronic products ensuring accurate results in product design performance. Should we add and liaison with Test providers.
  • Responsible for defining the vision and strategy for the Validation & Verification on a given project.
  • Manage & co-ordinate customer requirements, define the requirement data model and ensure all activities are performed and any potential risks are identified.
  • Lead the generation of technical documentation, including integrated validation and verification strategy plans, manage development and validation programmes and associated resources to achieve customer demands.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to facilitate the implementation of accurate and concise test procedures.
  • Responsibility for guiding and supporting engineers and projects during all aspects of product development activities from providing technical documents, define, define, co-ordinate and assist with testing setups and processes to produce results and reports in line with planned timescales.
  • Responsibility for delivering the V&V activities of the allocated project on Quality, Cost & Delivery.
  • Be prepared to work off-site at customer and supplier sites to assist setup and perform testing.
  • Acts as consultant to the Engineering Team with regards to Standards, Specifications & Requirements.
  • Develops mechanisms to verify solutions against product requirements to demonstrate compliance with defined requirements and system architectures, resolving major issues as they arise.
  • Develops all required supporting documentation during the development of the solution in accordance with defined Engineering procedures.
  • Supports the project planning and definition of work packages in order to ensure that the project objectives are delivered on Time, On Cost and on Quality.
  • Leads the more Junior Verification Engineers in the team to ensure that all work is delivered in accordance with allocated work packages to the required cost and time targets and the defined quality standards.
  • Mentors more Junior Verification Engineers in developing their experience and skills in relevant subject areas.

 

Sustaining Engineering

  • Follows Design & Development Processes and Procedures and completes all relevant checklists during the development of verification solutions.
  • Identifies and leads opportunities for the improvement of the engineering function as well as the wider business including the development of new procedures and artefacts when required.
  • Follows configuration management processes and identifies solutions where product or process falls short of such requirements.

 

Essential Requirements

  • Degree qualified in an relevant technical subject or equivalent
  • 5 years+ Experience of operating in a New Product development engineering environment, with responsibilities for delivery of verification solutions to schedule and quality against defined requirements for electrical products.
  • An understanding of the complete Engineering Development Lifecycle from Requirements definition to Volume manufacturing
  • Experience of verification to RTCA DO-160 for the aerospace environment and relevant regulated environments
  • Authoring Test Plans, Procedures & Reports in support of Product Verification & Validation
  • Experience in the Identification & Management of Test Houses in conducting Qualification Test Programmes in accordance with issued Test Plans & Procedures
  • Performing In-house and/or external testing for Functional, Environmental, Mechanical & EMC requirements
  • An understanding of Health & Safety compliance
  • English GCSE or equivalent (min Grade C)
  • Intermediate level user of MS Excel, Word and Powerpoint

 

Desirable

  • Experience of verification to Boeing D6 standards & Airbus ABD standards for the aerospace environment
