Main Duties and Responsibilities

New Product Development

  • Manages, and is the main point of contact for the NPI Production Engineering team.
  • Co-ordinates the Test Development and Test Engineering Engineers, for the design, implementation, planning, reporting, Risks to the Project, activities, Impacts and the resolution of these.
  • Review Customers Technical Documentation to establish the Production / Test Requirements.
  • Supports the project planning and definition of deliverables to ensure that the project objectives are delivered on Time, on Cost and on Quality.
  • Develops requirements and production solutions for Hardware & Software to meet Project needs, Regulatory requirements and STG Aerospace strategy in order to support New Product development.
  • Identifies and develops all required supporting documentation during the development of the solution in accordance with defined Engineering procedures.  E.G. PPAP, PFMEA, FMECA studies, understanding contracted requirements, Process flows and gates, procedures as defined in the project plan.
  • Supports the business on proposals and bids.
  • Works with the NPI Design teams and provides direction towards Design for Manufacture (DfM) and Design for Test (DfT), defining Manufacturing and supporting the incorporation of the Test strategies for the product taking into account Cost, Efficiency and Quality.
  • Leads the delivery of internal & External Production Equipment providers
  • Influences the design requirements for manufacturing processes applying knowledge of product design, assembly, testing, tooling and materials.
  • Develops all required supporting documentation, i.e. Process instructions, Work Instructions, Test ATP, Test Instructions, Schematics, TPM requirements, H & S risk assessment, during the development of the solution in accordance with defined Procedures.
  • Support the Project deliverables of Demonstration parts. i.e. LabVIEW software and hardware for customers.
  • Supports the project planning and definition of deliverables to ensure that the project objectives are delivered on Time, on Cost and on Quality.
  • Training of Staff in the assembly processes, and the updating of their training records.
  • Engineering Electronics Lab & workshop management, the availability of equipment and materials to support the project plans.

Sustaining Engineering

  • Follows STG Aerospace Processes and Procedures and completes all relevant checklists during the development of product solutions.
  • Drives the improvement of the engineering function as well as the wider business including the development of new procedures and artefacts when required.
  • Follows configuration management processes and identifies solutions where product or process falls short of such requirements.

 

Key Experience/skills

Essential          

  • Degree qualified in Product, Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering or another technical equivalent.
  • 5 years+ Experience of operating in a New Product development engineering environment, with responsibilities for production engineering or manufacturing related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of Design for Manufacture (DfM).
  • 5 years+ Experience & understanding of QA and production processes in the regulated electronics industry (static precautions, traceability, configuration control, poke yoke processes etc.)
  • An understanding of the complete Engineering Development Lifecycle from Requirements definition to Volume manufacturing.
  • An understanding of Health & Safety compliance.
  • English GCSE or equivalent (min Grade C).
  • Intermediate level user of MS Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Flexibility in dealing with changing priorities.
  • Strong numerical and verbal ability.

Desirable         

  • Knowledge of AS9100 compliance and operating environment
  • Aerospace experience
