Bright Lights: Warehouse Team

In our Bright Lights series, we showcase our brilliant employees and their experience of working here at STG Aerospace. This time, we're talking to the Warehouse Team, at our Cwmbran, UK site,  to get an insight into a typical day and to find out what they value most about working at STG.

The role of the team

From receiving raw materials to dispatching finished goods to customers across the world, the team plays a vital role in ensuring everything runs smoothly. Led by Warehouse Team Leader Leah Griffiths, and supported by Goods Inwards Inspector Callum John, Dispatch Controller Megan Parfitt, and Warehouse Operative Kim Nash, the team works together to keep operations moving.

Callum explained: “Our team is where everything starts and ends. We receive the raw materials for our products, process orders for customers, and dispatch the final orders to ensure operations run efficiently.”

The team focuses on making sure every part of the production chain keeps flowing safely and accurately.

A day in the life

No two days are ever the same for the Warehouse Team at STG. Tasks can vary but daily meetings are essential to help the team align priorities and ensure they meet the goals set for each week.

Leah explained: “We figure out which raw materials are arriving and what needs to be picked for production. Once we have completed our priorities, we start working on the dispatch targets for the day and identify where support may be needed across the wider business.

Meetings keep the team focused and allow them to plan ahead, whilst also providing flexibility to handle the unexpected such as early or late deliveries.

Roles within the team

Each team member brings something unique to the table. Leah oversees the whole warehouse, Calum goods inward/inspection with assisting the production team. Megan manages shipping and ensures that customers worldwide receive everything they need for a smooth transition of products to their aircraft. She manages everything from careful packaging to ensuring that the extensive paperwork is filled in correctly.

Kim is responsible for picking orders for production and cycle counting, ensuring stock levels are accurate. Everyone has their own individual responsibilities, but they are always happy to support each other.

What makes the team special?

The people,” says Leah without hesitation. “We are an outgoing group of people on this team so there’s fun and laughter, but the work always gets done. I’m fairly new and from a different industry but the team welcomed me and showed me the ropes from the get go.

For Kim, the team’s reputation across STG says it all: “We’re fun, approachable, and happy to help. We’re the sunshine on a wet and cold day!

What is the biggest challenge?

A small warehouse brings unique challenges, particularly during busy project periods. Space can be tight, especially when the team can get several pallets delivered in a single day.

Callum said: “It’s a logistical puzzle, but we always find a way to make it work.”

Leah adds: “We’re so busy that it can be hard to cross-train skills as much as we would like, but it’s something we’re always working on.”

What is the best thing about working at STG?

The team is unanimous in agreeing that the best thing about working at STG is the people, and Callum explained that the company is like a second family.

Aside from the people, Megan said: “The variety of work is also great, no two days are the same, and working with customers worldwide is exciting and niche.

Kim added that she feels pride in the calibre of product that STG produces. She said: “I’m proud that our products are so innovative, and I love saying that we work in aerospace. Our work helps people stay safe when flying on their holidays.”

Leah agreed and concluded: “Flying will never be the same. Now, I’m always aware of floor path markings and cabin lighting when I fly. It’s exciting to know that we’re part of something so important.”

The Warehouse Team is the backbone of STG Aerospace’s operations, combining teamwork and efficiency to keep everything moving across the wider business. Their dedication ensures that every product reaches its destination safely and on time and their energy makes them a valued part of the wider STG team and Heads Up Technologies Group.
