STG attends Orbis Visionaries Event
At STG Aerospace, we are passionate about innovation, safety, and making a meaningful impact beyond the aviation industry.
This week, representatives from STG attended the third Orbis Visionaries event in London, reaffirming our ongoing commitment to Orbis UK, our chosen charity partner dedicated to fighting avoidable blindness worldwide. We are proud to have worked with Orbis UK since 2018.
Hosted at the iconic Battersea Power Station in the historic Control Room A, the evening celebrated the progress in global eye health globally. We were honoured to attend the event alongside our partners and other dedicated supporters, and it was a privilege to be part of an evening attended by Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Edinburgh.
The event featured an insightful panel discussion, led by journalist Helen Fospero, exploring the future of global eye care. Orbis experts highlighted critical issues such as improving access to eye care for women and children, and how enhancing vision directly contributes to economic empowerment and educational opportunities. Panelists discussed tackling avoidable sight loss, including access to eye care and the devastating impact sight loss can have on people and their families, and how tragic it is that much of this is preventable. There are often simple solutions like medicines and glasses – access to which many of us take for granted and can make a huge difference to people’s quality of life.
The discussion also highlighted the urgency of meeting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, and how Orbis’s work is central to that mission.
Orbis’s innovative approach includes training local eye care professionals, supporting hospitals and communities, and operating the world’s only flying eye hospital, which is a state-of-the-art ophthalmic teaching facility on board a converted MD-10 aircraft. The STG team is particularly proud that this aircraft is equipped with our very own saf-Tglo® emergency floor path marking system, helping make the critical missions safe and successful.
Our partnership with Orbis extends beyond product support. The STG Aerospace team has actively engaged in various fundraising efforts, including a sponsored Christmas event, and a company-wide initiative to donate all funds raised from selling furniture for our site upgrade are being donated to the charity.
Supporting Orbis is more than a corporate partnership for us, it’s a shared vision of a world where quality eye care is accessible to all. From delivering school screening programmes to training the next generation of eye care professionals, Orbis is changing lives, and we are proud to support them on their journey.
Kate Williams, Global Marketing Manager, STG Aerospace, said:
“Our business is fundamentally about light and flying, so a charity that is using the power of aviation to prevent sight loss in some of the poorest countries in the world was an obvious choice. The Orbis team were kind enough to give us a virtual tour of their Flying Eye Hospital a few years ago. We all found it so interesting and informative, it’s still spoken about today. Indeed, the more we learn about the fantastic work Orbis is doing, the more we feel compelled to support.”
We look forward to continuing our support and contributing to their vision for 2030.
