Sustainability
Sustainability was high on the agenda in 2024, and it will continue to be a core driver of innovation across the industry in 2025. Airlines and OEMs are increasingly prioritising eco-friendly options, striving to reduce their environmental footprint while aligning with global sustainability goals. From lightweight materials that enhance fuel efficiency to cabin designs that incorporate recycled or biodegradable components, the commitment to greener aviation will be high on the agenda.
There will be an increased focus on electric and hybrid aircraft to reduce the industry’s reliance on fossil fuels, cut emissions, and boost efficiency. However, the reality of eVTOL meeting the right regulatory standards in the near future is slim, which we discussed in a recent article.
Green manufacturing practices such as using sustainable materials like composites and recycled metals is becoming more popular. We are also seeing more organisations exploring the possibilities of using bio-additives in manufacturing techniques, helping to minimise ‘forever plastics’ and environmental impact. The process of creating and launching saf-Tglo® eco E1™ last year taught us many lessons about working with recycled materials, which we will take into our 2025 innovations.
LED lighting
With the average age of the global fleet rising, retrofitting will continue to be a popular option for airlines trying to bridge the gap. Airlines can refresh the cabin with retrofitting services to modernise the look of interiors and keep up with passenger demand. In this space, LED lighting shines bright.
LED lighting has emerged as the industry standard, offering unparalleled flexibility and greater fuel efficiency.
Unlike traditional lighting solutions, LED systems can be integrated into various cabin locations, improving both functionality and aesthetics. Their versatility enables airlines to create mood lighting schemes tailored to different phases of the flight, from boarding to landing, enhancing the overall passenger experience.
Beyond aesthetics, LED lighting provides significant operational advantages. These systems consume less power, generate less heat, and have longer lifespans, reducing maintenance costs. Passenger comfort

The trappings of this trend are clear: we will see enhancements in lighting, larger windows, improved cabin humidity levels, and modernised in-flight experiences. Measures such as these are transforming air travel with greater emphasis on creating an enjoyable experience.
We will see more dynamic lighting systems as they can simulate natural light cycles, helping long-haul passengers adjust to different time zones and reduce the impact of jet lag. These systems also contribute to a calming cabin atmosphere, improving overall passenger wellbeing. Secondly, larger windows offer expansive views and more natural light, creating a more open and inviting cabin. They also align with the growing passenger preference for a connection to the outside world while flying.
Long-haul flights often lead to dehydration due to dry air, so we expect to see improved humidity levels in the cabin through humidity control technologies. By maintaining optimal humidity levels, these innovations contribute to better health and comfort, helping passengers feel more refreshed upon landing. Finally, airlines are focusing on quality over novelty, incorporating thoughtful design elements and cutting-edge technology to elevate the travel experience. From ergonomically designed seats to personalised entertainment systems, the emphasis is on creating a seamless and enjoyable journey for every passenger.
